I took this photograph a few weeks ago without a purpose in mind. This object is precious to me and I suppose photographers have a tendency to photograph, well almost anything, but especially people and things they love. The photos are of my mom and dad.
The past few weeks I’ve been doing some major soul searching in the quest in starting-up my own photography business. While asking myself simpler questions of web design, card design, and the general being of my business, there is also a big question in the back of my head. A question that comes up when stuff hits the fan. When your car is breaking down and you’re spending your savings on lens and flashes. When you start getting scared and looking for an easy way out. You think, “Whoa, WHY am I doing this again?”
I am obviously doing this because I love photography. I also know I can spread that love to others by what I do. But way deep down, it’s because I love family. Well, the concept of family and more specifically how much I love my family. And I know how much you must love yours. When I ask myself what my most valued material possession is, it is family photographs. Hands down. After women and children, I would save them from a burning building. They are priceless. I have spent countless hours riffling through old photos and albums. I love the stories they tell. The smiles they bring. I think, “This is where I came from.” I want to photograph you to create these beautiful amazing documents for you and your family, now and for the future.
